Asked Questions
1. What is the process
to ensure informed consent and confidentiality of participants so that
their CVs are used only for the purpose intended by users? What safeguards
will be put in place to ensure that the CV is not available outside
its intended purpose?
The issues of privacy, access to information and
security are of paramount importance to the project and its success.
This is ensured in the following ways:
- The Common CV web site is
secure and encrypted. When the data is entered or transferred,
it is encrypted using 128-bit encryption with Secure Socket Layer
(SSL). This is the type of security used by most banks. Once the data
is stored in the Common CV database it is secured and access to the
data is restricted.
- Users have control over the
use of their information. The primary goal of the system is
to create a CV form that will reduce the amount of work the researcher
and student (user) will have to undertake to create a CV using the
Common CV system. The user will be asked to opt in or opt out of the
uses that will be envisioned for the CV information, such as the sharing
of the participant's CV information amongst the participating organizations.
The participant's wishes will be fully respected.
- Member organizations must
inform the users of their intended use of the information. When
a user submits a CV to a member organization, this organization will
be able to view all information submitted by the user in the common
fields and the fields specific to their organization. Full disclosure
of the possible uses of the information will be made, so that the
user will have a complete understanding of the options for the sharing
of their information with other participating agencies, other researchers
or the public.
- Information captured in the CV is shared only within
the parameters set by federal and applicable provincial legislations.
2. Will there be
any rules regarding the creation of the password?
The system will enforce a password that
contains at least one capital letter and at least one number. You may
also not use the word password, the word commoncv or any part of your
e-mail address (since this is your username). The password must be at
least 6 and no more than 10 characters long. It may be alpha or numeric
characters, but it is case sensitive (i.e., lower or upper case).
